Santa Monica Studio successfully reinvigorated the God of War franchise with its 2018 PlayStation 4 release. They succeeded in creating a great game but have been reticent on the details regarding their next project. A God of War sequel is in the works but we know little about their unannounced title. Santa Monica Studio changed all that with their recent announcement.

The next battle

Fans long caught on to the fact that Santa Monica Studio had plans for two games following 2018's God of War. It is now confirmed that one of those projects is the God of War sequel.

Santa Monica Studio holds an illustrious history of amazing God of War games but that is not their only claim to fame. The Sony-owned California studio helped develop titles for indie games studios as a business incubator. One of the most successful titles that the studio aided was the indie adventure game, Journey.

Unfortunately, the studio made news for a cancelled sci-fi IP that was planned for development prior to the 2018 God of War game. Players and fans need to proceed with building hype with caution as there's no telling what the future of the game studio holds. Santa Monica seeking a new Art Director through Twitter is a completely unorthodox move but it might just pay off for them.

What we know

The studio released a trailer for the God of War sequel but there is little known about the game. 2020's PlayStation 5 showcase included the game but there have been no new announcements. Currently, rumors run rampant that the title may be pushed back to a 2022 release. Hopefully, Studio Santa Monica reveals more about the followup to 2018's hit game.
