Jorge Masvidal is planning a comeback. The Cuban American is eyeing some big matchups in his return to the cage.

The goal for him at this point is to fight for the title and make a lot of money. In his mind, there are only a few matchups that achieve that for him.

“Ideal scenario — I walk into the office and they go, ‘This individual can get you closer to the title than any other individual,'” Masvidal told ESPN. “And I go, ‘Give me that individual.' And they offer it to me with a lot of money behind it. All these guys are corny. I don't give a f— about them. I want to go for the title again. Whatever it takes to get to that title — whatever opponent, whatever threat, challenge. Whatever they want to come up for me to deal with it, I'm there to do it.”

The priority right now for Jorge Masvidal is fighting a top contender so he can get a title shot. That includes names like Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards.

Masvidal has fought for the title two times against Kamaru Usman. Unfortunately for ‘Gamebred,' he would lose both fights, by decision and knockout.

The path back to the title is not an easy one but it's feasible for Masvidal, especially if Usman were to lose his title at some point.

Rivalries with Leon Edwards and Colby Covington make things interesting should Usman no longer be champion. There is a storyline in those fights and a decent win or two could usher him right back in the title picture.

Until then, fighting Kamaru Usman again would be complicated consider they have already fought multiple times. Usually, a trilogy only gets booked when both fighters have a win against each other.

Luckily for Jorge Masvidal, there are still some fun matchups at welterweight. Not only is there Edwards and Covington but there is also a certain fighter from Stockton that's making a comeback.

Nick Diaz fights Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 later this month. A win that would put him right in Masvidal's line of sight.

“If Nick looks good and does his job, why not me and Nick?” Masvidal said. “I'd love to fight Nick. It's a classic fight. It's a fight that I always wanted to do since I was at Strikeforce at 155 [pounds] and he was at 170. I was like, ‘Man, that's a dude I would like to fight.' Nothing personal, just because of his style. The way that he leaves it all out there. If I get a fight with Nick, it'll be a blessing.”
