The Washington Redskins got torched by Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in Week 5, and it was an all-around bad night for Redskins cornerback Josh Norman, who got completely outplayed by Saints wideout Michael Thomas, and also got on head coach Jay Gruden's bad side.

Norman was benched to start the third quarter. Yes, his play was poor in the first half, but that's not why Gruden ultimately decided not to start the 30-year-old after halftime. According to Kevin Sheehan, a longtime host of the Redskins pregame show, Norman was benched for not taking his headphones off during Gruden's halftime talk.

The Redskins lost by a final score of 43-19 on Monday Night Football, dropping their record to 2-2. Josh Norman was matched up against Michael Thomas for majority of the night, and was abominable. Thomas finished with four receptions for 74 yards. Gordon also lost Tre'Quan Smith in coverage, which allowed Smith to score a 62-yard touchdown pass just before halftime.

Josh Norman signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Redskins in April of 2016. On the season, he has 18 total tackles, 10 solo tackles, and zero interceptions. The seven-year veteran will look to redeem himself in Week 6 against his former team, the Carolina Panthers.
