Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie could soon make his return to action for the United States men’s national team.

USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter unveiled the 27 players who earned call-ups for the side’s June schedule. The reigning Concacaf Gold Cup winners will meet Morocco and Uruguay for a pair of international friendly fixtures, which will then be followed up by the start of Concacaf Nations League group stage play against Grenada and El Salvador.

Berhalter opted to include McKennie on the squad list, who has not played in a single fixture since suffering a broken foot injury in February. However, he has made a full recovery from the injury.

Berhalter is not planning on starting McKennie in either of the USMNT's upcoming international friendly matchups, but as he noted during a press conference on Friday, the midfielder could possibly start in one of the Nations League contests instead.

“So we're going to have a plan for him,” Berhalter said. “I wouldn't be expecting him to play major minutes in these first couple of games. Hopefully, we can get to a point where he can start one of the Nations League games, but that's not guaranteed.

“He's been doing a great job and getting back and for us, it's just great to have him back in camp and hopefully get him some playing time throughout the camp.”

McKennie is still with Juventus, as the Serie A powerhouse will cap off its league schedule with an away clash against Fiorentina. The American international did take part in training this week, although it remains to be seen whether he may go on to play on matchday 38.
