Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was released Monday after his second arrest in two months.

NFL network insider Pelissero reported that Buggs had his bond revoked after his most recent arrest on a domestic violence charge, coming on June 16. Buggs is currently in jail as his legal cases work through the system.

He was also charged with animal cruelty in a previous case.

The Chiefs backup defensive lineman, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 330 pounds, has faced multiple run-ins with law officials in the offseason. His current arrest on domestic violence charges, gave the Chiefs little choice but to wash their hands of the situation.

A product of the University of Alabama, Buggs was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. According to Tuscaloosa, Alabama district court documents, Buggs allegedly dragged a woman down the stairs of her apartment before getting arrested on Sunday, per Lukas Weese of The Athletic.

Police responded to a 911 call related to the incident at 5:28AM. When they arrived, they found Buggs in the parking lot of a nearby Little Caesars, where the arrest occurred.

Buggs was booked on a second-degree domestic violence charge and a second-degree burglary charge, and released on $5,000 bond.

In late May, an animal cruelty charge came Buggs' way. He allegedly abandoned two dogs at a rental property, and the animals did not have access to food or water. Both dogs appeared to have not eaten for quite some time when Police arrived. Because of the abuse, one of the dogs had to be put down.

An agent for Buggs, Tony Robinson, issued a statement denying the claims of animal abuse.

Buggs played for three seasons in Pittsburgh, and spent the last two with the Detroit Lions. He started 13 games in 2022, but made only three starts last season. His meager totals were 12 tackles, two for loss.

WR Rashee Rice also part of the Chiefs legal woes

It's not the first misstep by Kansas City Chiefs' players this year. Wide receiver Rashee Rice has had multiple situations with the law enforcement officers, including a high-speed hit-and-run car crash on March 30th.

Rice received eight felonies charges for the incident. He also had a run-in with a photographer at a Dallas nightclub in May, resulting in assault allegations. But those charges were eventually dropped.

The Chiefs are bracing for a suspension that could cost Rice, their top wideout, eight or more games for the 2024 season.

It has been quite a Super Bowl hangover for the Chiefs, who will need to get their house in order quickly. It's extremely tough to repeat in the NFL. It's even more difficult to win back-to-back titles. No team has ever won three titles in a row. And the Chiefs have that task while also dealing with multiple internal struggles.

The loss of Buggs doesn't appear to be a huge blow, but shoring up the public relations image of the league's premier franchise is a critical step for the 2024 season. The Chiefs don't appear to have a solid foundation for the upcoming season despite the recent string of success.
