Kansas City Chiefs players are NOT having a good offseason so far. The two names that have made the headlines recently are Harrison Butker and Rashee Rice. Butker got a lot of flak from the internet for his inflammatory commencement speech. Rice, on the other hand, is dealing with serious criminal charges against him.

A few months ago, Rice was involved in a six-vehicle high-speed car crash that left quite a few people injured, but with thankfully no casualties. It was later revealed that the accident likely happened due to the Chiefs wide receiver racing one of his friends. Rice's vehicle was reportedly going at a whopping 119 miles per hour before the crash.

A month later, while the investigation into the car crash is still ongoing, Rice got involved in yet another incident. This time, the Chiefs wide receiver was the suspect in an assault that happened in a nightclub. The investigations for these two incidents are still on-going today.

On Saturday, Rice made his first public comments since the two incidents that happened in April and May. The Chiefs wide receiver said that he's looking to learn from his mistakes after this incident, per ESPN.

“I’ve learned so much from that. All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me. . . . Accidents and stuff like that happen, but all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy.”

That's quite the costly accident to make, if we're being honest. The police and NFL investigation on the Chiefs star is still ongoing as of today.

Chiefs' wide receiver room situation

It's such a shame, too. Rice emerged as the best wide receiver for the Chiefs in their second straight Super Bowl run. The then-rookie wide receiver tallied 938 yards and seven touchdowns to lead Kansas City's wide receiver room. He brought a much-needed spark to a WR room that was seen as heavily underwhelming entering the season.

This time around, the Chiefs do have a much better wide receiver group around Patrick Mahomes. Rice is presumably returning, unless he gets served a suspension by the NFL or is sentenced in court. Even if Rice doesn't play, Kansas City signed former Baltimore Ravens standout Marquise Brown as a potential top option. They also drafted speedster and new 40-yard dash record holder Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft (thanks, Bills!).

The Chiefs are now looking to do what few teams have done in NFL history: win a three-peat. Again, the path to the Super Bowl alone is tough. The AFC is full of contenders just biding their time, all with a vendetta against Mahomes and co. Going back to the Super Bowl alone might prove to be a grueling ordeal. Still, you can never truly count out the Chiefs. We learned that lesson in the last two years.

As for Rice, the Chiefs star is waiting to see what will happen to him next season. A suspension is extremely likely for the wide receiver, though the length is yet to be determined.
