There's an old sports saying that goes: “the legends of today will shape the stars of tomorrow.”

That seems to be the story between the Minnesota TimberwolvesKevin Garnett and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Garnett was the staple icon of the franchise for 10 years before he left for the Boston Celtics in search of a championship ring.

The Big Ticket came back to the team that drafted him, this time in a mentorship role — clearly taking Towns under his wing.

The results? A Rookie of the Year campaign that saw the Kentucky product post averages of 18.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, two assists, and 1.7 blocks.

Now, Towns will try to follow up his mentor's footsteps by gracing the cover of SLAM Magazine, the same exact way Garnett did 21 years ago.

The 7-footer has always been fond of Garnett and has even been seen wearing his jersey at different events — most recently the Call of Duty World League Championship in Inglewood, Calif.

No better homage than to represent the jersey of the team that brought the franchise to prominence on such an iconic magazine cover.
