The Minnesota Timberwolves made a huge splash last Thursday night during the 2017 NBA Draft by acquiring All-Star forward Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls.

The move immediately thrust a high level of expectations on the franchise with their newly formed big three in Butler, Andrew Wiggins, and Karl-Anthony Towns. In light of that, Towns sounded quite boastful in his predictions of what lies ahead for the Timberwolves.

From Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

Although Minnesota lost a promising young player in Zach LaVine in the deal, Butler has progressively developed into one of the best two-way players in the league. His addition gives Minnesota a gritty and tough player who has embraced the leadership role.

Butler is also coming off his best individual season, averaging career-highs across the board with 23.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Meanwhile, Towns continued to show massive improvement in his second year in the league, putting up 25.1 points on 54.2 percent shooting from the field and 12.3 rebounds while finishing second in the league with 62 double-doubles.

Wiggins also put together a stellar campaign where he registered career highs of 23.6 points, 2.3 assists, 35.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc, and 103 3-pointers. On top of that, the duo of Towns and Wiggins were the league's highest-scoring combo this past season, combining for 3,994 points.

There will be an adjustment period for the three to learn to play alongside each other, but the potential is there for the Timberwolves to be back in the playoff picture next season. It also puts them on track to eventually compete against the stacked Golden State Warriors.

Minnesota still has pieces to add to the puzzle while also sorting out the situation concerning Ricky Rubio. That said, the addition of Butler has put them on the track to being a force in the league in the near future.
