Speedrunning commentator Karl Jobst is being canceled by the speedrunning community on Reddit, with allegations of racism, among other problematic behavior, raised against him. On the other hand, Jobst himself reported that the video gaming legend Billy Mitchell has sued him for defamation.
Allegations of problematic behavior came in droves as Redditors on r/speedrun commented on a post by fellow speedrunner Tomatoanus. Tomatoanus has, until recently, appeared in a podcast with Jobst as a co-host. However, Tomatoanus has since disassociated from Jobst, quote:
“Effective immediately, I'm ending all involvement and association with Karl Jobst, including The Legends Podcast.”
Tomatoanus says that he has received information on Jobst' past misbehavior, and has since decided to disassociate from Jobst in all of his activities.
A cadre of Karl Jobst detractors then started posting purported evidence of problematic behavior, such as racism, creepiness, problematic sexual behavior, as well as an allegation that he used to be a pick-up artist.
Meanwhile, Jobst revealed that he has been sued by Billy Mitchell for defamation, demanding $450,000 in damages. This is as a response to Jobst's claims that Mitchell cheated his way to his world record runs on games such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.
Karl Jobst's response to racism, problematic behavior, response to litigation
Jobst has since denied allegations, producing an entire video discussing both the litigation and the allegations leveled against him. He mostly talked about the allegations raised at him, saying that most of the ‘evidence' presented is taken out of context, blown out of proportion, or downright disingenuous. He showed a number of allegations and addressed each one directly. At the same time, Jobst acknowledged valid criticisms, admitting and apologizing for past mistakes.
Karl Jobst vows to continue updating his community on the progress of the litigation in future videos.
