Back in the day, Kendrick Perkins was a seasoned big man who won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. Nowadays, Perkins continues to make his presence felt in the NBA as an analyst for ESPN.

But while Perkins brings a lot of experience to the table, there's no doubt that the NBA champion has also said the craziest takes on national television. Let's take a look at Kendrick Perkins' 10 wildest NBA takes.

10. Trade Jimmy Butler

After Jimmy Butler took the Heat to two NBA Finals trips in a span of four seasons, it's surprising that Perkins suggested the idea of trading away the team's franchise player. Although the Heat failed to win it all, trading the face of the franchise and going into rebuilding mode seems to be a drastic measure.

9. Ja Morant should leave Memphis

While Ja Morant was facing issues off the court for flashing a weapon on social media, Perkins suggested a wild decision for Memphis by floating the idea of trading away the team's cornerstone. Furthermore, Perkins would express his desire to see Morant in a Heat uniform. It was quite a wild take given how much Memphis supported their rising star.

8. Not impressed with Victor Wembanyama

Victor Wembanyama just won NBA Rookie of the Year. After all the hype, the French sensation has proven to be a force to be reckoned with.

But when Wemby described the NBA as “less physical” during the NBA Summer League, Perkins made a bold statement saying he wasn't impressed with the rookie's play. While it's fair that he had yet to face top-caliber NBA big men such as Nikola Jokic or Joel Embiid at that time, Wemby was already showing plenty of promise.

7. Luka isn't that guy

Given that Luka Doncic is poised to take over the NBA someday, it wasn't surprising that the analysts floated the idea of possible stars that would want to play along with the five-time All-Star. However, the conversation certainly turned heads when Perkins declared that Luka wasn't the guy just yet and needed to make some changes regarding himself, as per reports.

6. Joel Embiid as the most skilled big man in NBA history

While Kendrick Perkins has played against some of the best NBA centers during his playing days, it seems that he was very impressed with Joel Embiid's game. In fact, the NBA champion even declared the NBA MVP as the most-skilled big man in league history.

The claim certainly sparked a debate, especially with three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic dominating the league today. Furthermore, the wild take seemingly ignored the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon, Wilt Chamberlain, and etc.

5. Kevin Durant's trade request as a scare tactic

Kevin Durant's stint with the Brooklyn Nets wasn't as eventful as expected. And when KD was growing frustrated in Brooklyn, trade rumors started to swirl around the league. However, KD's former teammate Perkins wasn't buying those rumors.

Instead, Perkins responded with a wild opinion and called Durant's move a scare tactic. Midway through the 2022-23 season, however, the Nets traded Durant to the Phoenix Suns.

4. No future face of the NBA

There's no doubt that in the modern era, the league is still being led by the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Durant. But given that all three players are on their late 30s, their time is certainly ticking. When analysts gave some possible names who could become the face of the league, Perkins made a bold statement that there isn't a young player capable of carrying the torch.

With a surplus of young talent such as Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, Victor Wembanyama, and many more, the claim was outrageous at best.

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo wouldn't be a problem for Big Perk

The NBA has evolved in more ways than one since Perkins retired. But when asked how he'd fare against the best big men today, Perkins responded in controversial fashion.

While he admitted that he'd have his hands full with Jokic and Embiid, the NBA champion crazily claimed that back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo wouldn't be a problem for him. It was quite a head scratcher for someone who only averaged 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in his NBA career.

2. Jonathan Kuminga grew to 7-2

Part of being a sports journalist and analyst is to confirm the facts before spreading information. However, the former 6-foot-10 center may have made a mistake and claimed that Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga stood tall at 7-2.

The information was false and drew flak, given that the source stemmed from an online viral joke. It's worth noting that Kuminga is officially listed at 6-foot-7 by the NBA.

1. Suggesting racial bias in MVP voting

Arguably the most controversial statement made by Perkins is when he implied that the NBA MVP voting process was racially biased. Perkins brought up the MVP wins of Steve Nash, Nikola Jokic, and Dirk Nowitzki. However, Perkins' narrative that the vast majority of voters are white has been refuted and corrected by ESPN's Molly Querim.
