With the Golden State Warriors capturing the 2017 NBA title in five games over the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kevin Durant earned the NBA Finals MVP award for the first time in his career.

According to Warriors PR, Durant's stellar performance in the series has also made him just the second player to garner the NBA Finals MVP alongside Hall of Famer Michael Jordan while averaging some eye popping numbers.

Durant was the clear-cut choice for MVP for the Warriors, averaging 35.2 points on 55.6 percent shooting from the field ,including 47.4 percent from beyond the arc, with 8.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game. He was also the first player to score 30 or more points in the first five games of the NBA Finals since Hall-of-Famer Shaquille O'Neal did so in 2000.

The Cavaliers simply had no answer for Durant on the offensive end of the floor as he shot better than 53 percent in all but one game while knocking down 38-of-41 free throws in the series for a 92.7 percent clip. He was particularly huge in the closeout Game 5 scoring a team-high 39 points on 14-of-20 shooting with five made three-pointers.

The fact that he joins Jordan in this exclusive category shows how impressive his play in the NBA Finals was against Cleveland. Beyond just the historic feats he set, the NBA title and MVP award provide further validation to Durant that he made the right decision to make the jump to Golden State last summer.
