Kevin Durant praises Markelle Fultz for summer league debut

Markelle Fultz

In his first Summer League game with the Philadelphia 76ers after being selected with the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Markelle Fultz impressed with 17 points and three blocks in an 89-88 loss to the Boston Celtics.

It was an outing that drew some praise on Twitter from the 2017 NBA Finals MVP, Kevin Durant.

Fultz delivered in his first Summer League game with the 76ers, displaying an array skills that made it clear why he was taken with the first overall selection. He has the ability to create his own shot, which he did on numerous occasions Monday despite missing a few shots at the rim.

Most telling was his effort on the defensive end, getting three blocks while stifling the opposition routinely. Fultz has the size at 6-foot-5 and length with a 6-foot-9 wingspan that will lend well for him defending both guard positions.

Fultz will have a prime opportunity to showcase what he can bring to the table in his rookie campaign, starting in the backcourt alongside the 2016 first overall pick Ben Simmons. All in all, this was an encouraging performance that may be foreshadowing to what’s to come.
