Former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov had some strong words for his rival Conor McGregor following his knockout loss to Dustin Poirier on Saturday. The Russian sambo specialist did not mince words when addressing why The Notorious got defeated in his UFC return, despite being the favorite heading into the match.

While Khabib's words are indeed pretty harsh, he does offer some nuggets of truth about McGregor's misfortunes.  A lot has really changed for the Irish superstar since he first took the UFC by storm as a brash newcomer in 2013. Fast forward to today, some fans and pundits claim Conor McGregor no longer has the same desire to fight and prove himself.

The former two-division UFC champion is already set for life and is one of the biggest personalities in combat sports. That once-in-a-lifetime boxing match against Floyd Mayweather back in 2017 turned him into an even bigger multi-millionaire than he already was. McGregor, meanwhile, already said post-fight that he will continue fighting and hopes to return to the octagon later this year. But as far as Khabib is concerned, the Irishman must return to his roots to be successful in the cage once more.

Nurmagomedov and McGregor's names, meanwhile, will forever be etched together in history following their heated rivalry. The two fighters were considered the best lightweights in the world when they fought at UFC 229 in 2018. It was the Russian who got the better of that rivalry, submitting McGregor with a neck crank in round 4. While the two have gone on different paths since then, looks like Khabib is still not done taking shots at his former adversary.
