Sacramento Kings general manager Vlade Divac has received a four-year extension of his contract, which will run until the 2022-23 season, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Despite missing the playoffs by a nine-game margin, Divac, the beloved former Kings player who was initially hired in March of 2015 was rewarded for an unforeseen progressed with this young core, one he helped build and is now considered as one of the most promising in the NBA.

Divac however, will have the faith of head coach Dave Joerger resting in his hands. Joerger still has one year and $5 million left on his contract, yet the jury is out on his future as the leader of this young team.

The Kings started the season a promising 30-26 after many experts doubted they could reach 20 wins on the season, yet Joerger could only manage a lackluster 9-17 record in the final stretch of the season — falling well short of the last playoff spot.

The playoffs were not an expectation for this core, but they sure would have been reflected into a surefire for Joerger, even if the Kings made it out as the eighth and final seed.

Yet it appears the Kings will have to wait another season to prove they are a playoff-worthy team, but it's tough to say if Divac will choose to give Joerger the peace of mind of a contract extension or make him coach for it over the course of the 2019-20 campaign.
