The New York Knicks are desperate for a winning season. They were expected to be a contender during the 2021-2022 NBA campaign but fell well short of a postseason spot. The duo of Julius Randle and RJ Barrett did not perform as well as anticipated either. Their underperformance has fans begging the team to add a superstar such as Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell has been linked to the Knicks for quite some time. While nothing is imminent just yet, the Jazz are could very well  place one of Donovan Mitchell or Rudy Gobert on the trade block given the team's postseason struggles. Utah has seemingly realized that the Mitchell-Gobert duo isn't going to lead them to a championship.

So could Mitchell end up in New York?

According to a recent report from Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, it is unlikely.

Rudy Gobert is believed to be Utah's preferred trade option. They would rather build a team around Mitchell than Gobert. And they wouldn't need to trade Mitchell even if he requested a trade since he has three years remaining on his current contract. The Bleacher Report article mentions that the Knicks lack the necessary assets to acquire the Jazz superstar as well.

The article mentions a potential Tyler Herro-led package from Miami that could entice the Jazz. Many believe the Heat are a star away from becoming an elite team. Adding someone like Donovan Mitchell to compliment Jimmy Butler could be what leads the Heat to a championship.

With all of this being said, there is still a possibility that Mitchell ends up in New York. But Knicks fans shouldn't get their hopes up.
