The New York Knicks are having a difficult season, and many believe head coach Jeff Hornacek should pay the price for that with his job.

But Hornacek believes the loss are not because of his coaching, but because of the team's youth. He also stressed the front office has his back, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

“We were talking about rebuilding and we got off to a good start because we had a lot of home games,” Hornacek said. “Scott and Steve, everybody’s still on the same page of trying to get our young guys opportunities. We’re still trying to win games. We still want to establish an identity where defensively we’re going to get after it all the time and we’re building toward that. It’s great to have their support.”

The Knicks are 10th in the Eastern Conference, with good young players such as Kristaps Porzingis. Many times, coaches get replaced even though losses may not be their fault at all.

Hornacek appears to feel his job with the Knicks is safe, and that the team as a whole is looking at the big picture rather than just wins and losses this season, per Bondy.

“You always want to win. We know it’s a process that we kind of got to grow into,” Hornacek said. “Players want to win every game. Coaches want to win every game. Management wants to win every game. But you also have to keep that big picture in mind and always think about are we making strides. Or are we just trying to win games and the strides stop? We always have to keep that in mind.”

Whether Hornacek loses his job or not remains to be seen. It's tough to see a coach get fired when his team doesn't win because the organization doesn't get players that are good enough.

But in a market like New York, the fans want wins. And since it's easier to get rid of a coach than it is to trade players, that's what usually happens.
