The New York Knicks are off to quite an encouraging start to the season, holding a 5-4 record through the first nine games.

A significant part to that has been the play of third-year forward Kristaps Porzingis taking some major strides his play as he has become among the top scorers in the league. The 22-year-old put that on full display on Sunday scoring a career-high 40 points to help lift the Knicks from a double-digit deficit to a win over the Indiana Pacers.

According to Kristian Winfield of the SB Nation, Porzingis has surpassed Hall of Famer Bernard King for a prestigious mark in team history.

He was also the first Knick to record at least 40 points, five rebounds and five blocks since Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing back in March 1995. Porzingis has been an absolute offensive force on the court, currently ranking second in the league with 30.2 points per game while notching 30 or more points seven times.

This also saw him become the youngest player in team and NBA history to record at least 30 points in five out of the first six games of a season. Porzingis has found much comfort in his new role as the top scoring option following the departure of All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony. It could just mark the beginning to what may be a breakout year for Knicks' rising star forward.
