The New York Knicks are under new leadership, and Leon Rose's hiring of William “Worldwide” Wesley might help them get a foot in the door in a potential trade for Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker.

Marc Berman of the New York Post recently assessed some of the Knicks' potential trade targets. Booker is reportedly the player to keep an eye on as the new regime heads into its first offseason:

However, since Leon Rose was hired as president, the player to watch out for most is Suns combo guard Devin Booker, according to league sources. If Rose hires Tom Thibodeau, Towns — a former Rose client — no longer makes sense because of their history.

Booker was formerly a client of Rose's, a connection that Wesley helped facilitate while the All-Star shooting guard was still a freshman at Kentucky.

The familiarity between parties might make things interesting in the event Booker wants out of Phoenix. The scoring guard also praised Rose shortly after he was hired by the Knicks (via Berman):

“I think he’ll do unbelievable,’’ Booker said of Rose. “One of the most genuine guys I know. One of the most honest guys I know. So I’m happy for him in his new position. I think the Knicks are in really good hands.’’

It remains to be seen whether Booker wants out of Phoenix, or if the Suns would even entertain trading him.

Phoenix will be partaking in the “bubble” games down in Orlando, Florida. The Suns are still building with the notion that Booker and former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton will be franchise centerpieces for the long haul, not to mention Booker signed a five-year extension in July of 2019 with the organization.

Still, it might be worth keeping tabs on Booker in the event he becomes more disgruntled. Rose and the Knicks might just make their overtures.
