The New York Knicks are no longer playing for a spot in the playoffs, which was expected of them by many long before they were officially eliminated from postseason contention. With a few games left on their regular-season schedule and nothing meaningful else to play for, the Knicks and their front office are beginning to look forward to the offseason and the changes they will make to ensure that the team will not duplicate this kind of pathetic campaign.

Perhaps on top of the Knicks’ to-do list is to replace head coach Jeff Hornacek. Hornacek is in his second season with the team, but he has yet to prove he could lead New York back to being a relevant player in the Eastern Conference. Worse, he appears to have also lost the respect of his own wards – even the mild-mannered Kristaps Porzingis.

According to a report by Marc Berman of the New York Post, Porzingis once hurled a spice-laden language at Jeff Hornacek during a practice.

The source told The Post that late last season, Kristaps Porzingis, normally the politest of souls, cursed out Hornacek during a practice, using the F-word.

Porzingis does not come across as a guy with an easy-to-find trigger. For him to lash out at Hornacek in the manner described in Berman’s story, there has to be a legitimate reason.

At this point, the Knicks could just be waiting for this season to end before parting ways with Hornacek. To be fair to Hornacek, the Knicks have missed the services of Kristaps Porzingis for most of this season because of the Latvian’s ACL injury. Still, it does not sound such a bad idea for New York to just move on from Hornacek.
