The 67th annual NBA All Star game is just around the corner. In 2018, the host city will be Los Angeles, at Staples Center.

Being the home to Los Angeles Lakers as well as their cross street neighbour, the Los Angeles Clippers, this is exciting news to fans.

The All Star game will happen on Sunday 18 February 2018. The other events such as Skills Challenge, Slam Dunk contest, Celebrity game and Rising Stars challenge will happen throughout the 16 to 18 February weekend. As the presales period open, the buzz begin to build.

This marks a record sixth time that any city has organized the perennial event. Prior to 2018, Los Angeles hosted the All Star game in 2011, 2004, 1983, 1972 and 1963. The venue, Staples Center, has been the sports center of choice for 2011 and 2004.

Apart from the promise of seeing NBA superstars congregate in a not-to-be-missed superb exhibition game, fans of LA can also have a chance to see the Lakers young stars and legends such as current President Earvin “Magic” Johnson and even recently retired Kobe Bryant play host to the annual event.

Last year, thanks to the huge fan base in the Philippines, Jordan Clarkson  finished sixth in the All Star voting for guards. Who knows, this year he might make it to the team? Maybe if the performance of breakout star Brandon Ingram becomes consistent, he too may make the All Star team?

This is the inaugural year when Adam Silvers' first big reform of the All Star game format gets implemented. The 2018 event will see the top voted All Star from the East and West become captains. The captains can then select any of the All Stars to join their team, regardless of conference. It is perhaps one of the most hyped scenario as fans get a chance to see their favorite players team up in any dream combination that were previously impossible under the old format.

Whoever makes it to the All Star squad, one thing for sure is Lakers fans will have many great reasons to look forward to the event come 2018.
