For some reason, Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso has a huge fan base.

Caruso, who some would say is an average player in the NBA at best, thinks the way he plays and his overall appearance is a big reason why Lakers fans love him:

“I think it's the way I play—every game I go out there and play as hard as I can, and I think people appreciate that,” Caruso told Leo Sepkowitz of Bleacher Report. “Then it's the fact I look like I could be a common person walking on the street. They all want to hold onto like, ‘Hey, that's one of us out there doing it,' which is funny because I feel like I'm a normal person. I walk around and I don't feel like I'm 6'5″, I don't feel like I'm this guy that plays for the Lakers. But it's the reality of it.”

The Lakers made a Alex Caruso mixtape this offseason and posted it on social media. The video got 3.1 million views on Twitter and Lakers superstar LeBron James even thought it was great. Several other Caruso photos and videos have gone viral online.

Caruso played his college ball at Texas A&M. He signed a two-way contract with the Lakers on July 13, 2017. Last season, Caruso averaged 9.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 25 games. He had a monster putback dunk against the Golden State Warriors at Staples Center, a play which got LeBron out of his seat on the bench.

Caruso signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with Los Angeles this offseason, his first guaranteed deal in the NBA.
