Los Angeles Lakers veteran forward Markieff Morris called Anthony Davis the best player in the world despite LeBron James being on the roster.

Davis, who is coming off a monster Game 1 against the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals, says Morris actually tells him he's the best player in the game all the time and appreciates the confidence Kieff gives him, via Kyle Goon of the Orange County Register.

Markieff Morris says the media is trying to twist his words, as he claims he called Anthony Davis and LeBron James the two best players in the world.

Behind Davis and James, the Lakers racked up the best record in the Western Conference standings during the 2019-20 regular season. It's been special to watch these two superstars develop their on-court chemistry as quickly as they have.

The Lakers are three wins away from accomplishing their goal of becoming the best team in the NBA. All signs point toward Los Angeles winning the championship at Walt Disney World since the Heat are dealing with a bevy of injuries.

Davis becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason once he declines his 2020-21 player option with the Lakers. However, no one in the league expects the Chicago native to leave Los Angeles, especially given how successful the Lakers have been in Year 1 of the Davis-LeBron era.

Game 2 of the 2020 Finals between the Lakers and Heat is set for Friday. Look for James and Davis to assert their wills early on and step on the necks of the Heat.
