The 2021-22 Los Angeles Lakers have just one practice under their belt, yet Russell Westbrook is already seeing the type of dynamic force Anthony Davis can be in pick-and-roll scenarios.

Westbrook and Davis conducted a joint media session following the first practice of Lakers' training camp. Both players, and head coach Frank Vogel, had positive reviews from the 5-on-5 scrimmage, which they said was highly competitive, fiery, and productive.

Westbrook was specifically asked what kind of “weapon” Davis can be in pick-and-roll scenarios.

“Sh*t, the ultimate weapon,” Westbrook said. “You got the ultimate weapon. It’s my job to utilize it to the best of my abilities and make sure that AD and ‘Bron, whoever is put in the pick and roll, are put in positions to be successful. That’s a part of my job.”

Westbrook had high praise for Davis' unique all-around skill set, too.

“AD’s a special talent,” he said. “Obviously, the whole world knows it, the whole league knows it. One of a kind, there’s nobody like him that can do everything that he’s able to do at his size. My job is to make sure to continue pushing him each day, each practice, each game, so he can be at the top of his game each and every night. He’s been in this league a long time, so he understands how to play the game. He knows when he needs to turn it up.”

At Lakers' Media Day on Tuesday, Davis specifically noted that he's looking forward to playing with Westbrook for both his proclivity to push the ball in transition and to his “elite” lob passing.

To use a word Westbrook uttered at Media Day when describing Anthony Davis' potential at the 5: the Los Angeles Lakers are going to be “deadly” in the pick-and-roll this season.
