In every free agency period, there is always one player who comes away as a major loser. So far this year, that player is none other than former Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schroder.

After acquiring Schroder from the Oklahoma City Thunder over the last offseason, the Lakers worked right away to open up contract extension talks with the score-first guard. Such talks did not get off to a promising start, as he reportedly turned down a two-year, $33.4 million extension deal before the season.

Most notably, Schroder later rejected a four-year, $84 million extension offer from the Lakers front office during the season. Many were shocked to learn that the former Atlanta Hawks guard had aimed to sign a $100 million-plus extension deal to stay with the Lakers.

Schroder essentially bet on himself, and that gamble has now made him a laughingstock. Following his putrid performances over the Lakers' Western Conference first-round series against the Phoenix Suns, the team opted to look elsewhere for score-first guards, which has included signing the likes of Malik Monk and Kendrick Nunn.

NBA fans have been relentless on Twitter ever since the ongoing free agency period kicked off Monday, as Schroder's chances of signing even a $15 million per season deal are all over with.

Lakers fans have had a field day roasting Schroder as they sure must be pleased that he did not end up accepting either of the two extension offers.

Schroder may be on the verge of soon finding a suitor, as the Boston Celtics are reportedly interested in signing him to a mere one-year contract deal. This would essentially be a prove-it deal for Schroder, as he would come into the season with high expectations before hitting free agency once again next year.

In the big picture, Schroder surely wishes that he could go back and accept either of the two offers that the Lakers placed on the table for him.
