Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James put his struggling team on his back on Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors, dropping 56 points in a thrilling comeback victory to finally give the Lakers a win after the All-Star break. Even amid a disappointing Lakers season, this was just yet another reminder of how special LeBron is as he excels at 37 years old.

After the game, fellow Lakers veteran Carmelo Anthony was in awe of James' performance:

“His scoring was phenomenal tonight,” the Lakers forward said. “The way that it came, the rhythm of the game, the flow of the game, us making that comeback and him being a big reason for us coming back, making that run that we did. It didn’t have to end. He just put us on his back tonight. He was phenomenal. What else can we say about him.”

Melo knows a thing or two about scoring, so this is especially high praise. LeBron shot 19-of-31 from the field, 6-of-11 from 3-point range and 12-of-13 from the foul line in his prodigious scoring display. It was rather fitting that the Lakers star went off like this after he complained about not being recognized as one of the best scorers ever. Despite being on track to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time scoring record (he already passed Kareem for combined points in the regular season and playoffs), a lot of people don't consider The King one of the GOAT scorers because of his natural ability to look for the open man and make plays for others.

For his career, LeBron is just over 27 points per game, which is fifth in NBA history behind Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Kevin Durant. James is putting up 29.4 points per game this season, which is just a tick behind Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo for the NBA lead. While this has been a brutal season for the Lakers, LeBron continues to shine.
