When the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Danny Green over the summer, fans expected to receive a defensive stalwart and a 3-point specialist. While he has been performing at a decent level, Green himself admits that he hasn't lived up to the team's expectations.

“This year, I haven't been the specialist that I've needed to be,” Green said, per Melissa Rohlin of Sports Illustrated. “Still getting better, still perfecting it. But nothing in this league is easy to do, especially when people know what you're good at. They're going to try to limit that, take that away from you.”

While most fans are pleased with his shooting, the statistics prove Green's claims. Thus far in the season, Green is shooting 38.1 percent from deep, which is 2.1 percentage points lower than his career average of 40.2 and 7.4 percentage points lower than his percentage last season.

But as mentioned, Green is not just someone who knocks down 3-pointers. He is also a defensive specialist, having been selected into the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2017. In fact, Lakers head coach Frank Vogel praised Green for always being “in the right spot” on defense.

“His IQ and intelligence is an underrated part of defense,” Lakers' coach Frank Vogel said. “He’s always in the right spot. He has great toughness and size. He has a great ability to use his instincts to deflect the basketball. You get a lot of those scrums in the paint. You see him stripping balls and coming up with balls and things like that.”

With less than 25 games left in the season and the Lakers leading the West, Danny Green has enough time and opportunity to perfect that shooting stroke come playoff time.
