There was a time when the Los Angeles Lakers had Kobe Bryant and LA Galaxy had David Beckham. The two sporting juggernauts were instrumental in making sports fandom in the City of Angels an enjoyable one.
Since they were the pillars of their respective teams, they had an awareness and respect of each other's games. With that said, one can understand if Bryant's death last month had an effect on Beckham.
In an interview with ESPN, Beckham looked back at the time he spent in LA and the impact Bryant had on his life. He has nothing but kind words to say about the NBA legend, noting how motivated he was to watch Lakers games until the end because of Kobe.
"I was lucky to live in LA when the Lakers were winning championships, and I was lucky to sit there and watch Kobe."

Beckham shared the instances that he watched Kobe play at Staples Center with his family. He revealed that whenever his loved ones were asking him to leave the game to eat or do something else, he didn't budge and explained that he would not leave a Lakers game until the Black Mamba himself walked out the court.
However, their presence as star players in their respective sport isn't the only thing keeping them together. Beckham played for AC Milan multiple times, and Kobe was more than thrilled that Beckham was playing for his favorite Serie A team. Bryant's passion for the Rossoneri was one of the things they probably talked about whenever they met.
david Beckham's solemn tribute to one of the greatest basketball players of all time is a testament to the impact Kobe Bryant had on the entire city. It will take more than a while before the Kobe-shaped hole in the city's gut will be filled.
