Dennis Schroder's free agency gambit now appears to have failed. The Los Angeles Lakers guard was famously offered an $84 million extension to stay in LA, which he promptly turned down to bet big on himself.

Now it looks like Schroder has a losing hand, with the casino ready to take away most of his winnings. All offseason long, many NBA experts, including respected names like ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, pegged the Lakers as somewhat delusional for dreaming bigger than Dennis Schroder. But with Russell Westbrook now with the Purple & Gold, it seems that the German point guard has become the biggest loser in all this.

Schroder remains unsigned as the Lakers have pulled off a flurry of moves in addition to Westbrook's arrival. With many of the top point guards locking deals elsewhere, it looks like the market has dried up completely for Dennis.

Via NBA insider Marc Stein:

“The Mavs have zero interest in Schroder. It’s staggering that he turned down the 84M offer from the Lakers. This is tough to watch, there’s been so little Schroder discussion. Tough stuff, tough to watch.”

Although the Lakers have evidently moved on from Dennis Schroder, you hate to see him struggle to find a home. Hopefully, someone scoops him up on a fair deal so that he can ball out next season.
