Doc Rivers was one of the first names that popped up once the Los Angeles Lakers confirmed the firing of Frank Vogel. Rivers has long been linked as the potential successor of Vogel at the helm in LA and now that Frank is officially out, Rivers is now considered by more than a few folks as a strong contender for the job.

For his part, however, the Sixers coach has now broken his silence on his links to the Lakers. Rivers needed only nine words to kill the rumors of a potential move to Hollywood to coach LeBron James and Co.:

“I have a job. We want to win here,” Rivers said, via Tom Moore of the Bucks County Courier Times.

There you have it. Straight from the horse's mouth. Based on his statement here, Rivers has no interest in leaving his post to join the Lakers.

Then again, this isn't exactly a complete denial. Who knows, perhaps the Sixers win it all this season. If that happens then Rivers would have already fulfilled his “job” and his desire to win in Philly, right?

There are few more high-profile names in the coaching circle today than Rivers so, at this point, it would be foolish to completely rule out this possibility.
