LeBron James has dealt with critics his whole life but nothing quite like this. After opening his new “I Promise School” in his hometown of Akron Ohio, the Los Angeles Lakers star then sat down with CNN to not only discuss his school but shed some light on his opinions toward Donald Trump.

In his interview, James went on to say he believes President Trump is using sport to divide people.

As you can imagine, James received heavy backlash from both diehard Trump supporters and the President himself, who went out of his way to take a personal attack on James and interviewer Don Lemon.

When you think about it, it’s a bizarre time we live in where the President of the United States would be prepared to have a Twitter war with arguably the biggest athlete in the world, but welcome to 2018.

The response from Trump caused even more of a stir, with fans, NBA players and media personalities rallying behind James and jumping into his corner.

Another important individual standing on James’ side is anchorman Lemon, who took it upon himself to clap back at Trump in the support of the four-time MVP.

This promises to be a feud that rages on the entire time Trump is in office, as his back-and-forth with athletes has been a constant since his election. James is one of many athletes who has voiced displeasure of his views, plans, and agendas, and that will no doubt continue.

As an individual who now finds himself in the political spotlight on a regular basis, when asked whether or not James would consider running for the presidency, his response was an interesting one.

Lemon: “Would you ever run for office?”

James: “I don’t think so, I sit here and say I don’t think so but I don’t know.”

Lemon: “I’m being serious if someone tried to recruit a LeBron to run for president, they said, listen, they’ve got no one, if you don’t run Trump’s going to win, would you run?”

James: “Well in that case I may.”
