LeBron James and Dwight Howard have known each other since they were teenagers, and they had been foes for much of their professional careers. With that said, Howard couldn't believe it when they became teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers.

Howard joined his teammate Jared Dudley in an Instagram Live interview on Wednesday. In the conversation, the Lakers big man recalled his duels with James from way back — showdowns which led him to believe that they would never be able to play alongside each other on the same NBA team.

“Man, it’s been wild, man. I remember telling my sister, man, me and LeBron been playing against each other since we were 15, 16 years old. And I was like, man, we’ll never play with each other, you know? We always, like, playing against each other. All of a sudden, we end up teammates. I couldn’t believe it. And I’m like wow, this is crazy, I’m playing with LeBron James. It’s still shocking. We like brothers from another mother. It’s crazy. It’s crazy,” the Lakers center said, as transcribed by Jamie Cooper of UPROXX.

For those who have followed Dwight Howard and LeBron James' careers, they had tons of classic duels in the NBA. In James' first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he faced Howard and the Orlando Magic in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals, which featured the classic game-winning 3-pointer by James in Game 2 which tied the series at 1-1.

However, as the series progressed, Howard and the Magic were just too good and took care of the Cavs in six games.

For what it's worth though, the LeBron-Dwight partnership has worked out well for the Lakers, with Howard playing one of the best campaigns of his career in recent years before the 2019-20 season was suspended due to COVID-19.
