The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed former All-Star DeAndre Jordan on Thursday following a buyout agreement with the Detroit Pistons. New teammate Dwight Howard was one of the first to welcome his new frontcourt buddy to the team and Howard's welcome message had a bold challenge for DJ.

Howard took to Instagram to send out a brief message for Jordan:

“I see greatness in you. Let’s go @deandre,” Howard wrote.

Howard's choice of emojis is also noteworthy. The two trophies he posted reference what he hopes will be his second championship with the Lakers. Howard won the chip with LA back in 2020. The trophies are followed by two padlock emojis which seem to indicate how he envisions his partnership with DeAndre Jordan on the Lakers. These are two of the best defensive big men in the NBA (during their primes, at least) and Howard intends to lock their opponents down alongside DJ.

The Lakers traded Marc Gasol to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, which frees up a lot of big man minutes for the taking. A starting spot could also be up for grabs, with both Howard and Jordan possibly in contention to be the Lakers' starting center in 2021-22.
