Los Angeles Lakers head coach Frank Vogel has taken a not-so-veiled shot at the NBA in the midst of Anthony Davis' injury woes. With L.A.'s star big man set to miss the next few weeks due to a calf problem, coach Vogel recently admitted that the extremely condensed offseason may have played a key role in what has been an injury-riddled campaign for Davis thus far.

This comes via Melissa Rohlin of Fox Sports:

The Lakers, along with the Miami Heat who they faced in the NBA Finals back in October, had the shortest offseason among all NBA teams. Game 6 of the Finals series was held on October 11 while the 2020-21 campaign kicked off on December 22, giving the defending champs just 71 days off. This is a far cry from the usual 20-week offseason teams were given in previous years.

As we all know, however, we are living in unprecedented times. The extended hiatus during the 2019-20 season was brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, and this was what ultimately led to a shortened offseason for L.A. Nevertheless, Vogel is clearly still ruing his squad's lack of a proper offseason break.

For what it's worth, Davis hasn't actually missed too many games so far this season — that is before his upcoming lengthy spell on the sidelines due to the calf injury. He's only missed five out of the Lakers' 28 games thus far, although as usual, he's been a constant in the team's injury reports.

Based on Vogel's comments here, you can be sure that the Lakers are going to take as much time as they can in terms of letting AD's current injury heal. Needless to say, we won't be seeing L.A.'s star big man take the floor anytime soon.
