Isaiah Thomas is bringing a new twist to his career as a Los Angeles Lakers point guard, switching his jersey from No. 7 to No. 3, according to the team.

Thomas will now wear the same number as the likes of Trevor Ariza, Devean George, Jeff Lamp, Manny Harris, and Elmore Smith — though it is unknown how long he will remain a Laker, with the onslaught of changes awaiting this summer wave of free agency.

The 29-year-old is having a down season after starting the 2017-18 campaign recovering from a hip injury, then struggling to catch up to Tyronn Lue's offensive philosophy with the Cleveland Cavaliers and having a rollercoasting 11 games with the Lakers after being acquired prior to the trade deadline.

Thomas is coming off the bench once again after tirelessly working to muster a starting position under Brad Stevens during his days with the Boston Celtics, but he has proved erroneous during his stint in L.A., turning the ball over a whisker under three times per game, despite playing less than 30 minutes per game.

Hopefully the number change can come with better play, as Thomas has failed to shoot over 50 percent in seven of his last eight games.

It's likely Thomas will only enjoy his new uniform for the next 18 games of the season, or less if the Lakers choose to shut him down by the start of April. His market stock has greatly diminished since his career-best season in 2016-17, mostly due to his inconsistencies and a worrisome hip injury that will leave plenty a GM with some doubts in the summer.
