LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers survived a fiery explosion from Ja Morant, thanks to … well, the Memphis Grizzlies star himself.

Morant missed what would have been a game-tying free throw with 2.5 seconds left on the clock. Given the situation, the Grizzlies-Lakers game would've extended to overtime and put the Purple and Gold in a lot of trouble.

Unfortunately for Morant, he seemed tired in the end and just didn't have enough gas left to complete the comeback. It was only his second missed free throw of the contest after 11 attempts, which makes it more painful.

LeBron James and the Lakers will be happy with the 121-118 win, though, especially since it is their first after three tries. Los Angeles was a mess in their first two games of the campaign, losing to the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns.

It was a gritty win for Frank Vogel's men, and while it could have ended ugly, there were a lot of positives to take. For one, Carmelo Anthony had a sensational display with his 28-point performance. While all the talks were the Big 3 of LeBron, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook, Melo just showed everyone that the Lakers could very well have a Big 4 at their disposal.

Of course LA wouldn't want to be in the same situation they had with Ja Morant and the Grizzlies. They simply can't let anyone drop 40 points and 10 assists on them, so they might want to review the tapes of the showdown and check where they failed defensively.
