The Los Angeles Lakers had a terrible season, missing out on the playoffs even after signing LeBron James in the offseason. After missing out on the playoffs and suffering through various injuries to some of their players, the offseason hasn’t been kind to the Lakers, as they fired Luke Walton, saw Magic Johnson step down from the organization, and have yet to find a replacement head coach.

During today’s episode of Speak For Yourself, Jason Whitlock expressed the thought that he thinks the Lakers organization, including Jeanie Buss, is over LeBron. “I think Jeanie Buss and the Lakers are over LeBron James… Ever since LeBron wouldn’t try to work with Luke Walton, she hasn’t liked LeBron.” Whitlock said.

Thanks to the many instances of drama that have plagued the team, Whitlock seems to think that the city and team are simply waiting out the three years that James has on his contract. Of course, James is still one of the best players in the NBA, and will likely contribute heavily to a possible Lakers playoff run next year. However, things went about as poorly as could be during this year, and with the Lakers missing out on both Monty Williams and Tyronn Lue as head coaching candidates, things are getting dire for the Lakers.

As they scramble to look for new coaching candidates, the Lakers will continue to be under scrutiny from both the media and its fans, some of whom have scheduled protests outside of Staples Center due to the state of the franchise.
