Los Angeles Lakers star guard Russell Westbrook has an uncertain future with the team after a tumultuous season in 2021. Westbrook has been the subject of trade rumors all offseason, most recently along with Brooklyn Nets All-Star Kyrie Irving. Amid the rumors, Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis made a shocking move at Summer League, as reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ Big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook huddled up on a phone conversation the first weekend of NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with each expressing their commitment to one another and vowing to make it work, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

During the first weekend of NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook spoke on the phone and expressed their “commitment to one another.” They also spoke about “vowing to make it work.”

It's pretty shocking, considering that Westbrook's name has popped up in several rumors thus far in the offseason. It's also been reported that the star guard and the Lakers are “headed for an inevitable divorce.”

Publicly, of course, it's been a different story. New head coach Darvin Ham has spoken at length about the new role he has for Westbrook and how he plans to get the guard to thrive alongside James and Davis.

Could the trio be looking to make things work next season? It would certainly be an about-face from the consistent rumors that have popped up in Laker land.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this James-Davis-Westbrook meeting.
