Veteran sports commentator Colin Cowherd couldn't help but criticize LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers for their lack of ability to build a team with sustainability unlike the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers have a proud winning history, but that desire to always be in contention may have just backfired after the 2021-22 season that saw them miss the playoffs. It's already the second time in four years since LeBron arrived that they failed to make it to the postseason.

Even more problematic for LA, they have an aging roster and lack the assets to get younger after their trades to acquire Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook in recent years. Sure, they did win one title with their efforts, but the future doesn't look so good for the team as it currently stands.

That is the focus of Cowherd's latest take, wherein he discussed why the Warriors are thriving in the playoffs while the Lakers are vacationing.

“There's no luck involved here. This is what the Warriors do and what the Lakers can't do. Draft, be patient and develop,” the FOX Sports broadcaster added.

It's easy to see where Colin Cowherd is coming from. The Lakers had the likes of Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and D'Angelo Russell, but they have all traded them away in their quest to get a championship-ready team.

Heck, LA could have even gotten Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum in 2017-18 had they opted to select him with the no. 2 pick in that year's draft.

Unfortunately, the Lakers just don't have the patience to develop young talent and are instead always in search for established superstars. That's not a bad strategy, but they can certainly learn a thing or two from the Warriors.

While Golden State's trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are still thriving, they already have their future cornerstones set in Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and (hopefully) James Wiseman.
