Perhaps even more relevant than the recent firing of Ryan Saunders is the fact that the Minnesota Timberwolves organization glossed over current assistant coach David Vanterpool for the newly-opened post. Personalities from around the league have had their say about the matter, with the latest being none other than Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James.

LeBron took to Twitter to show his support for those who are saying that the recent Vanterpool snub serves as another loss for the African American coaching community:

LeBron's former teammate, Kendrick Perkins, recently went on a rant about how he believes that there ought to be more African American executives around the league. In his tweet, James himself backed Perkins' thoughts, expressing how he fully supports Perkins' statements here.

Vanterpool was considered by many as the practical choice for the job once the firing of Saunders was announced. However, the Wolves decided to go in another direction, hiring Toronto Raptors assistant coach Chris Finch as the team's new head coach.

It wasn't too long ago that several personalities called out the Brooklyn Nets for their decision to go for an inexperienced Steve Nash as their top shot-caller while glossing over a number of well-qualified African American coaches.

For his part, LeBron James is undeniably one of the most influential African Americans throughout the globe, with his popularity going way beyond the realm of sports. Should he decide to do so, a future as a team executive could be in the books for the four-time NBA champ. That would be a tremendous opportunity for James to effect change in the league in terms of pushing back racial inequality.
