The Los Angeles Lakers have been a big disappointment this season. LeBron James tried to make sense of all the losing, which includes a current five-game skid, but his attempt does not hold up.

After the Lakers' loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Christmas, James was asked about playing with an influx of new players. In his answer, he used the Lakers' absences as a reason for their ineptitude and compared them to the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns, who he claimed haven't had to deal with injuries like Los Angeles has.

“Obviously, this losing streak is something that none of us want,” James said. “But, nobody's gonna feel sorry for you. No one's gonna be sorry for our record or no nobody's gonna be sorry for guys (being) out 'cause everybody—besides, I think, Golden State and Phoenix—everybody has guys out.”

The problem with this statement? The Warriors are missing plenty of key players, too. Klay Thompson and James Wiseman have yet to play this year. Jordan Poole, Andrew Wiggins, Damion Lee, and Moses Moody were placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols while Andre Iguodala was sidelined on Christmas due to a knee injury.

To James' credit, the Suns have been relatively healthy all season. But including the Warriors made no sense, as they had to rely on several G League call-ups this season and have succeeded greatly while doing so. They own the best record in the league.

The Lakers' failed comeback attempt against the Nets put them at 16-18 for the season and even drew slander from former Lakers forward Michael Beasley. They're still well within the playoff picture but they don't have too much more time to turn things around.
