Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James' “Space Jam 2” is still on schedule to release next summer despite the coronavirus pandemic.
LeBron admits he wishes the movie could be released now since NBA fans have nothing to watch, but the movie is still in production:
“Space Jam has always been scheduled to come out in June of 2021,” LeBron James said on the Road Trippin' podcast, via ESPN.
“So we're kind of (OK). And a lot of it right now is animation so being indoors is actually great for us. So, we're still on. Just like everything in the world, everything is slowed down a little bit, but we're still on target.
“I'm looking forward to it. During this time right now, I wish we could release it right now, man, and give people some things to watch in their households,” the Lakers star continued. “But we got until next year, next summer. We're excited about it.”
LeBron will play the role his idol, Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan, played in the first “Space Jam” movie. The Lakers icon is really, really excited for everyone to see the finished product.
“Space Jam 2” began production last summer. Golden State Warriors All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson, Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard, Lakers star power forward Anthony Davis and WNBA stars Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike are in the movie alongside LeBron.
And just like Jordan had on the set of “Space Jam,” James had an outdoor basketball court on his set to train over the offseason.
