Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has pretty much done it all throughout what has been an illustrious 19-year career. There is no doubt that this man will go down in history as one of the greatest to have ever picked up a basketball.

LeBron is a pretty savvy entrepreneur as well, with the four-time NBA champ also tied to more than a few highly-lucrative businesses in several different fields. Right now, it looks like the Lakers star just revealed his next business venture.

According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben, LeBron has filed four new trademarks with the intent of offering them in the form of virtual goods:

It appears as though LeBron James is preparing to enter the highly lucrative world of NFTs or non-fungible tokens. In their simplest form, NFTs are digital collectibles that can be purchased by anyone. It's definitely much more complicated than that, but what cannot be denied is that this digital movement has a ton of revenue potential — even for a guy like LeBron.

The NBA and NBPA, for example, have long been in partnership with NFT pioneer Dapper Labs behind the highly popular NBA Top Shot NFT platform. Unsurprisingly, LeBron is actually one of the most popular names on the platform with his scarcest digital “moment” (a 1-of-49 legendary Cosmic) fetching a market value of more than $500,000. It doesn't sound like LeBron is joining NBA Top Shot, though, with the Lakers superstar seemingly moving towards creating his own NFT brand.

In his trademark application, LeBron filed for the use of virtual “footwear, clothing, swimwear, headwear, bags, backpacks, sports equipment, sporting goods, toys, home furnishings, posters, trading cards, headphones, phones, video games, watches, jewelry, accessories and home decor.” He has also applied for the rights to offer “virtual basketball courts, gyms, and recreational facilities for playing sports in the metaverse and virtual worlds.”

It's hard to speculate what type of NFT LeBron intends to offer, but it's definitely an exciting prospect for fans everywhere. James is currently one of, if not the biggest name in all of sports, and his potential move to the NFT space could be of the landscape-shifting variety.
