Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James appears to have dodged a bullet following an early exit during Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Hawks. LeBron sustained an ankle injury that forced him to leave the contest, but as it is, the problem does not appear to be serious.

Initial reports state that the results of the X-ray on James' ankle have come out negative (h/t ClutchPoints on Twitter):

Lakers nation can now breathe a collective sigh of relief. Then again, James isn't completely out of the woods here yet. As the above report states, he is set to undergo more tests to determine the actual extent of the injury. We're all hoping that the MRI results also come out clean, though.

LeBron was actually able to play through the injury for a while, but he eventually had to check himself out. He slammed a chair to the ground in frustration as he headed back to the locker room which seemed to imply that he was somewhat worried about the injury.

After the game, Lakers big man Montrezl Harrell called out Solomon Hill of the Hawks for the latter's involvement in James' injury. Hill dove for the rock on a loose ball play and ended up putting his weight on LeBron's right ankle. According to Harrell, Hill did not make a play for the ball and suggested that the NBA review the incident in question.

A LeBron injury is the last thing the Lakers need right now. Anthony Davis is still on the shelf, and the team is also missing a number of other players, so without James, the defending champs are going to be extremely shorthanded.

UPDATE: LeBron has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and will be out indefinitely.
