Kevin Love to the Los Angeles Lakers has gained some unexpected traction in the past week. With the Cleveland Cavaliers' trade for Lauri Markkanen and his huge new contract, the writing is on the wall for the 5-time All-Star.

There were initial reports that a buyout was possible for Love, which opens the door for him to join a contender – one like the Lakers or Brooklyn Nets.

But the most recent news puts a damper on any hopes of Kevin Love joining LeBron James on the Lakers. Cavs insider Terry Pluto revealed that while there was indeed some noise on a buyout, both the team and other sources have refuted the initial report.

What about Love? An NBA source told me the Cavs were making progress toward a buyout for Love, who has two years and $60 million left on his contract. But the Cavs and other NBA sources have strongly denied it.

Any traction for a buyout, which is necessary to facilitate a Kevin Love to Lakers move, was then shot down entirely by his agent Jeff Schwartz, as reported by ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

“There have been no talks with Cleveland on a buyout, nor is there any interest from Kevin in doing a buyout,” Schwartz told ESPN.

The addition of Kevin Love could catapult a contender, like the Lakers or Nets, into sole favorite status or provide a  franchise one tier down with another dynamic offensive talent. While a buyout to jump ship isn't in the cards for now, Kevin Love's situation in Cleveland is something to definitely keep an eye on. If he remains healthy next season, where he ends up could shake up the NBA landscape.
