The Los Angeles Lakers have cleared guard Lonzo Ball for non-contact drills and will re-evaluate him in a couple of weeks, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints.

This isn't really much of an update as Ball has already been shut down by the Lakers and will still miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season. Nonetheless, it's great to see that Ball is trending in the right direction as the Purple and Gold continue to monitor their starting point guard.

The no. 2 pick of the 2017 draft severely injured his left ankle in a game against the Houston Rockets on January 19. He has missed Los Angeles' last 19 games since.

Lonzo Ball suited up for 47 games this season, starting in all but the first two games of his sophomore campaign. The 6-foot-6 guard finishes his campaign with averages of 9.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from downtown.

This is a tough break for Ball as this is the second consecutive season where he's been shutdown midway through. Of course, Los Angeles' priority is to make sure their prized point guard fully recovers from this injury and does not suffer any setbacks.

The Lakers have been hit with the injury bug this season. This, along with the wild Anthony Davis saga at the trade deadline, has been a major factor in tarnishing their playoff hopes. LeBron James missed 18 consecutive games due to a groin issue, while veteran guard Rajon Rondo also missed some time in December and January.

Moreover, rising star Brandon Ingram's season also came to close after he was diagnosed with a potentially career-threatening health scare, as tests revealed blood clots in his shoulder.

These are all unfortunate developments for the Lakers organization, and more so for Ball and Ingram. Here's to wishing that both can fully recover from their respective injuries and get ready for a bounce back season in 2019-20.
