Rajon Rondo to help Lonzo Ball as much as possible
When news broke that Rajon Rondo inked a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, many were quick to wonder: so who’ll be the starting guard? After all, Rondo is considered one of the top guards in the league. But once again Rondo has made it clear that he’s here to help the organization win. And that includes helping develop Lonzo Ball.
Rondo clarified that there he won’t necessarily compete for the starting guard position with Ball — the Lakers’ prized second-year man. Instead, Rondo’s here to help the 20-year-old:
“Whatever they ask me, you know, my main objective is to win,” Rondo told TMZ Sports. “I’m ready to help develop Lonzo as much as possible. If I’m not starting and he’s starting, he’s going to be ready to go and ready for anybody that comes his way. And we’ll be ready to roll.”
These are unprecedented words from an elite player like Rondo. In his 12 year NBA career, whenever he’s healthy, he’s usually the team’s starting point guard. But perhaps at this point in his career, he knows that he doesn’t need to step on the court to help the team win.
It’s been almost a decade since he last won a championship ring. Since leaving the Boston Celtics, it’s been an uphill battle of finding the right team with the perfect championship pieces. Now, it seems that he has found a new home with the Lakers. And snagging another ring is his only mission.
