The Los Angeles Lakers' roster for next season is almost set. They already have 14 players under contract, and with one spot still available, they can add another veteran or a young prospect to the team.

There are still several decent free agents available at the moment, but Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said that the team plans to keep the final roster spot open heading into the season. Pelinka and the team want that spot available if ever they need to sign a specific type of player.

“We did keep an open roster spot as we look to see once camp opens, or once we get into the season what other needs there might be,” Pelinka explained, per Christian Rivas of Silver Screen & Roll.

“Again, when you have a team like this team, that I think has a lot of excitement around it, you see veteran players that if they’re on a team that is not contending, I’m sure there will be players that down the road look to be moved, or look for buyouts. We’ll continue to keep our 15th spot open for that unless an opportunity presents itself earlier. The goal, or the strategy, was to go into the season with that 15th spot to address any needs that we see once the games begin.”

The Lakers have filled out their roster with players who can both shoot and defend the 3-point area. There are still multiple 3-and-D guys on the market at the moment, like Thabo Sefolosha and Justin Holiday. However, the Purple and Gold don't seem to be interested in any of those two.

Los Angeles was also one of the teams who attended the workouts of Amar'e Stoudemire and Monta Ellis in Las Vegas. Both players are trying to make a comeback in the NBA, but it is unclear if they have been able to convince anyone to sign them for at least for next season.

One player that the Lakers are closely monitoring is Andre Iguodala, who was traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Memphis Grizzlies last week. If Iggy is bought out by his current team, LA is expected to swoop in and sign him.

Rob Pelinka and Co. aren't in a rush to fill the final roster spot. They will carefully assess their options to make sure that whoever gets it can definitely contribute to the team's goal of winning a championship next season.
