It's no secret that LeBron James wants to stay in the NBA for as long as he can in order to get the opportunity to play with his son someday. Bronny is now just one year away from being eligible for the NBA Draft and by the looks of it, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar's dream is about to become a reality.
In a recent episode of Uninterrupted's The Shop, LeBron revealed just how motivated he is by this goal. The Lakers talisman stated that above anybody else, it's Bronny that he hopes to share the court with:
“Bronny is No. 1 on my f—–g list,” LeBron said (h/t Jose Rohdin of sportskeeda). “He's No. 1 on my list. I want to play with for sure … Not too long ago, I said, I asked him, I said, ‘What you want to do with this? Like, you want to get to the pros? What you want to do?’ He's like, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘Cause I want to make a name for myself.’ … And when I heard that, ‘Well, let's f—–g get it.’ That's all I needed to hear.”
Earlier in the season, LeBron shocked the basketball world when he came out with what many interpreted as a come-get-me plea for any team that was going to draft his son in 2023:
“My last year will be played with my son,” James said. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”
As they always say, there is no bigger motivation than one's own children. This is exactly the case for LeBron James, who himself has pretty much done it all in the NBA already. If he retires today, there is no question about his legacy. He will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it. For many, he is even the GOAT.
It is clear that at this point in his career, however, the one thing that keeps him fired up the most is the prospect of playing with his son. He's had a rough season with the Lakers this year and perhaps this dream makes this bitter pill easier to swallow, somewhat.
As for Bronny, however, the 17-year-old has no intention of remaining in his father's shadow. LeBron James is one of the biggest superstars on the planet right now, which will make this an extremely difficult task for Bronny. However, LeBron's eldest son is as bull-headed as his dad when it comes to chasing his dreams. So much so, that it was actually Bronny who decided to change his name a few years ago:
“By the way, he changed his name to Bronny. I didn't,” LeBron revealed. “He changed his name to Bronny. … Yeah, I made him a junior. But he Bronny. And he Bronny to the world.”
LeBron James has made a lot of history during his tenure in the NBA. However, as a father, there is probably no greater accomplishment than being able to suit up with your own son on the same team. This sounded highly improbable many years ago but now here we are, just one season away from LeBron beating the odds yet again and achieving a never-before-seen feat in the history of the NBA.
