If the Los Angeles Lakers were to bring Paul George to Tinseltown, they will not do it at the expense of some of their current assets.

The Lakers have already traded away D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets last week in a clear salary-dumping tactic that sets the team up with a spacious cap room next summer, and as far as recent reports go, the team will not dangle any more of their young guns in hopes of getting George’s services this offseason.

Instead, the team appears to be decided on waiting a whole season to pass by before going after the Indiana Pacers’ star. From Mark Medina of the Southern California News Group:

The Lakers are not expecting to acquire George from the Indiana Pacers amid their insistence on keeping Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. With their hopes set on George becoming available next summer, the Lakers want to pursue players who fit specific criteria that would accelerate the young roster’s development.

The Lakers have an interesting season ahead of them. The addition of Lonzo Ball via the recent NBA Draft will cover for the absence of Russell, while the acquisition of Brook Lopez via the same trade that sent Russell to the Nets, should up the Lakers’ frontline on both ends of the floor.

Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle will have another year to develop and by the time the summer of 2018 arrives, the Lakers could sell George the idea that the Lakers are just a star short of competing for a title.
