The NBA midseason is when contending teams usually make their final tweaks with hopes of fortifying their roster in preparation for the title chase. According to latest rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks are among those interested in signing free-agent guard Isaiah Thomas.

Per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, the Lakers and the Bucks are looking at the possibility of acquiring the high-scoring playmaker. Thomas' last NBA game was in the 2019-20 season as a member of the Washington Wizards. He was traded in February 2020 to the Los Angeles Clippers but was waived two days later.

Thomas recently made the headlines for his appearance in the FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers in San Juan, Puerto Rico last month. The two-time NBA All-Star showcased his old signature self, draining three-pointers, dishing, and finishing in traffic over much bigger defenders.

In two games, Thomas averaged 14.0 points on 43.5 percent shooting from the field and 50.0 percent from long range. Ahead of the tournament, Thomas admitted he hopes that it would pave the way for his return to the NBA (via nba.com).

“My ultimate goal is to play in the NBA as soon as possible. This allows me to compete against other professionals, represent my country at the same time—which is an honor and a privilege—and ultimately show NBA teams that I’m back to myself and I’m 100% healthy. That’s why I chose to come here. When Team USA brought it to me, it was a no-brainer.”

In nine years in the NBA, Isaiah Thomas averaged 18.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists and was among the MVP candidates in the 2016-17 season after leading the Boston Celtics to a deep run.
